Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast (2 level Tbsp.)
- 1/4 c. water
- 2 1/2 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 3 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3 c. stirred whole wheat flour
- 4 c. sifted white flour
- 1 c. half wheat germ and half all bran (optional)
Directions

1Soften yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.

2Combine hot water, sugar, salt and shortening.

3Cool until lukewarm; stir in whole wheat flour and white flour to make a moderately stiff dough.

4Knead until smooth, 10 to 12 minutes.

5Let raise; punch down.

6Rise again.

7Shape into 3 loaves.

8Bake for 35 minutes in 375° oven. Cover with foil, if necessary the last 20 minutes.

9After baking, grease top with butter.

10Makes 3 loaves.
