- 1 1/2 c. scalded milk
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. soft shortening (Crisco)
- 6 Tbsp. white sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 pkg. dry yeast or 2 cakes yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 3 c. whole wheat flour
- 3 to 4 c. white flour
Directions

1In a large bowl, pour in scalded milk.

2Add salt, shortening, 5 tablespoons sugar and beaten eggs.

3In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon sugar and yeast with the warm water.

4Let yeast mixture set for at least 10 minutes and then blend with the ingredients in a large bowl.

5Add 1 1/2 cups whole wheat and 1 1/2 cups white flour.

6Blend this mixture to a soft dough.

7Continue to gradually add the rest of the flours, remembering to keep the dough soft. Keeping the dough soft is the real secret to making light rolls.
