Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried navy beans
  • 1 large potato
  • 4 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 23 cracked bulgur wheat or 23 barley
  • 2 tablespoons hickory liquid smoke
  • 18 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 3 carrots, diced
  • 14 teaspoon parsley

Directions

    Soak beans overnight.

    Rinse beans under cold running water.

    Put in crock pot; add water to cover.

    Turn pot to high.

    Chop vegetables while sauteing onion in margarine; add to beans.

    Add hickory flavoring, seasonings and soy sauce.

    Cook on high for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

    Add bulgar or barley and cook an additonal 2 hours.

    You may need to add some water.

    Serve hot with corn bread or biscuits.
