Woodland Nut Cake

  • 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 rounded tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 level tsp. salt
  • 1 c. Crisco (scant)
  • 4 eggs, unbeaten
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 tsp. orange extract
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped pecans

    Sift 2 3/4 cups flour.

    Add sugar and salt and baking powder. Sift thoroughly.

    Drop in Crisco.

    Add milk and extracts and 2 eggs.

    Beat for 2 minutes at low speed.

    Add remaining 2 eggs. Beat 2 minutes more at low speed.

    Add chopped nuts and blend. Bake in 9 x 13-inch pan or tube pan for 40 to 45 minutes at 350°. Very good topped with a cream cheese frosting.
