Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.

2Mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.

3Cut in shortening.

4Stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture.

5Mix well.

6Turn out on lightly floured surface, knead lightly 3 or 4 times and roll to 1/2-inch thickness.

7Cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.

8Place on lightly greased baking sheet.

9Cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Preheat oven to 400°.

10Bake for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

11Makes about 12 biscuits.
