  • 5 cups plain flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter flavored Crisco
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups High Point Dairy buttermilk

    Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Cut in Crisco. Dissolve yeast in warm water for 5 minutes. Add yeast and buttermilk. Stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn out on floured surface and knead lightly about 10 times. Roll to 1/2 inch thick and cut with a 2 inch cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet, cover and let rise about 45 minutes. Bake in preheated 425° oven about 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
