- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 3/4 c. milk or potato water
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 4 1/2 plus c. flour
Directions

1Mix yeast and warm water until yeast dissolves.

2Add 1 3/4 cups of milk (or potato water), sugar, salt and shortening.

3Mix in flour until mixture leaves the side of the bowl.

4Remove bread mixture to a floured surface and knead until it is elastic.

5Put dough into a 3 or 4 quart greased bowl, cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour.

6Punch dough down, cover and allow it to rise for 30 minutes more.
