- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 c. milk, scalded
- 1/4 c. white sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 egg
Directions

1Soften the yeast in warm water and set aside.

2Combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt.

3Cool to lukewarm.

4Add 1 1/2 cups of flour; beat well.

5Beat in yeast and egg.

6Gradually add remaining flour to form soft dough, beating well.

7Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease surface.

8Cover and let rise until double (1 1/2 hours).

9Turn out onto lightly floured surface and shape as desired.

10Cover and let raise until doubled, 30 to 45 minutes. Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes.

11Makes 1 dozen to 2 dozen.
