Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
  • 1 stick margarine (1/2 cup)
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. almond paste
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. sliced almonds

Directions

    Cream butter, margarine and sugar in electric mixer bowl.

    Add egg yolk, almond paste and extract; beat well.

    Add flour and beat just until blended.

    Do not overbeat.

    Smooth with a spatula into an ungreased 12 x 8 x 2-inch ovenproof baking dish.

    Beat egg white until foamy and brush over surface of dough.

    Scatter almonds over top.

    Bake at 350° (325° for glass) for 40 minutes, until cake tests done.

    Cool and cut into 24 bars.
