- 2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 c. flour
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. hot coffee
- 1 tsp. soda
Directions

1Mix the brown sugar and flour.

2Cut in shortening until get little beads.

3Reserve 1 cup for later.

4Stir in egg and vanilla. Stir coffee and soda together; add to egg and flour mixture. Mixture may be a little lumpy.

5Pour into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle reserved cup of dry mix over batter.

6Bake at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes.

7After removing from oven, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
