- 5 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 3 Tbsp. baking powder
Directions

1Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt.

2Stir in shortening.

3Meanwhile, dissolve yeast in warm water.

4Add buttermilk and sugar to yeast mixture.

5Then add flour.

6Mix well and put in the refrigerator in closed bowl.

7Turn out on lightly floured board.

8If necessary, add more flour to make soft dough. Roll out 1/4-inch thick.

9Cut out and bake at 400° for 15 minutes. Makes 6 dozen.

10Dough may be kept in refrigerator 2 to 3 weeks using only portion needed.

11May be used for bread at any meal. Stuff with ham.

12You can add raisins, sugar and cinnamon for sweet buns.
