- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water
- 5 to 5 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

2Sift together dry ingredients; cut in shortening.

3Add yeast and buttermilk to dry mixture.

4Knead dough until it holds together; roll dough to 1/2 to 3/4-inch thickness.

5Cut with biscuit cutter and fold in half. Bake in a 400° oven for 15 to 20 minutes.

6Dough may be refrigerated or frozen for later use.

7Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
