  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening or unsalted butter
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. Combine dry ingredients; mix well. Cut in shortening with the yeast and dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse mix. Add buttermilk to mixture. Mix well. Turn out on floured surface; knead about 2 minutes. Roll or pat out and cut into biscuits. Bake in 400° oven for about 15 minutes.
