Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 (19 ounce) can stewed tomatoes (pref. chili style)
- 2 cups salsa (one jar)
- 2 (14 ounce) cans pork and beans with molasses
- 1 (19 ounce) can black beans, rinsed
- 2 -4 tablespoons chili powder (or more to taste)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 14 cup cornmeal (optional)
Directions

1Brown the ground beef in a large pot; drain and set aside.

2In the same pot, cook the onion and garlic in a litte oil until softened.

3Return the beef to the pot.

4Add the tomatoes, salsa, beans, and chili powder and stir together.

5Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to scrape the bottom of the pot.

6Add water if additional liquid is needed.

7Stir in brown sugar and cocoa powder, and adjust seasoning to your taste.

8If you prefer a thicker chili, stir in the cornmeal.

9Let simmer another 10 minutes or so and serve.

10You can also add diced carrots, celery, mushrooms, corn, zucchini, even diced eggplant to add more nutrients and make more servings.
