Apple Coconut Squares

Ingredients

  • 2/3 c. light brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. margarine or butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/3 c. flaked coconut
  • 1 (1 lb. 6 oz.) apple pie filling
  • 1/2 tsp. apple pie spice or a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves

Directions

    Grease 9-inch square cake pan or 7 1/2 x 11-inch baking dish. Preheat oven to 375°.

    Cream sugar and margarine or butter together.

    Sift flour and salt together and add to creamed mixture along with the coconut.

    Pack half of this mixture into prepared baking pan.

    Spread with the pie filling.

    Sprinkle with the apple pie spice and put remainder of crumb mixture on top.

    Pat down firmly.

    Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Cut into squares when cool.
