Apple Custard Bread Pudding

  • 4 slices bread, cut into four pieces
  • 2 small tart apples, grated
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1/4 c. melted butter
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

    Beat egg yolks with sugar; add melted butter, milk, nutmeg, vanilla and apples.

    Place 1/2 bread in pan.

    Sprinkle 1/2 raisins.

    Repeat bread and raisins.

    Pour mixture over bread and bake in 350° oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

    Before completely done, beat egg whites and 1/4 cup sugar and place on top of pudding.

    Continue to bake until brown.
