- 2 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2 c. flour
- 2 c. water
- 6 apples
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. salt
Directions

1Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg to make sauce.

2Cook 5 minutes.

3Add butter.

4Pare and core apples.

5Sift flour, salt and baking powder; cut in shortening.

6Add milk all at once.

7Stir fast until flour is moistened.

8Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut six 5-inch squares.

9Place 1 apple on each square; dot with butter.

10Fold corners and pinch edges.

11Place 1 inch apart in greased pan.

12Pour sauce over dumplings.

13Bake at 375° for 35 minutes.
