- 1/2 c. butter or margarine
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 c. water
- 1 1/2 c. sifted plain flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/3 c. milk
- 2 c. finely chopped apples
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Melt margarine in oblong dish.

3Heat sugar and water until sugar melts.

4Cut shortening into flour and salt mixture.

5Roll into ball as you sprinkle milk over dough. Roll into oblong shape about 1/4-inch thick.

6Spread apples over dough and sprinkle with cinnamon.

7Roll up like jelly roll and seal edges by dipping fingers in water and pinching together.

8Slice with sharp knife about 1/2-inch thick slices.

9Place cut side up in dish in the melted butter.

10Pour sugar and water mixture over this (be sure to use it all).

11Bake 55 to 60 minutes.

12Serve warm or with ice cream.
