  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 medium garlic clove, minced
  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons minced peeled gingerroot
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Directions

    Cook the onion and garlic over medium heat for about 3 minutes, or until the onion just softens, stirring frequently.

    Stir in the remaining ingredients.

    Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the liquids have reduced to 1 to 2 tablespoons, stirring occasionally.
