- 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about four 5 oz. apples)
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 14 cups all-purpose flour
- 14 teaspoon salt
- 12 cup butter, chilled and diced
- 14 cup cold water
Directions

1(Crust) In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

2Cut in butter with a pastry blender or food procesor (for a fluffier crust) until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Stir in water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball.

4Wrap in plastic and refrigerate while cutting apples.

5Prepare your pastry for a two crust pie.

6Wipe, quarter, core, peel, and slice apples; measure to 6 cups.

7Combine sugar and cinnamon.

8Additional sugar may be needed if apples are tart.

9Roll dough out to fit a 9 inch pie plate.

10Place crust in pie plate.

11Press the dough evenly into the bottom and sides of the pie plate.

12Arrange apples in layers in pastry lined pie plate.

13Sprinkle the top layers with sugar and cinnamon.

14Dot top layer with small pieces of butter.

15Cover with top crust.

16Place on lowest rack in oven preheated to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).

17Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
