- 10 slices white bread
- butter
- sugar
- 1/2 pt. milk
- 1 egg
- ground cinnamon
- 4 cooking apples
Directions

1Butter bread, both sides, and remove crusts.

2Then line bottom and sides of 1 1/2-pint ovenproof dish.

3Peel, core and thinly slice apples.

4Put layer of apples sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, then bread sprinkled with sugar, then apples all the way to the top, ending with bread.

5Sprinkle with sugar.

6Beat the egg in the milk until frothy and pour over the bread and fruit.

7Bake in slow oven until apples are tender and bread nicely browned, about 2 hours.

8Serve topped with fruit or ice cream.

9Serves 4 people.

10Set oven to 325°.
