Ingredients: 1 c. shortening (Spry or Crisco); 2 1/4 c. white sugar; 2 eggs; 3 1/2 c. hot applesauce; 2 1/2 tsp. salt; 1 1/2 c. raisins; 3 tsp. cinnamon; 1 1/2 tsp. cloves; 1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg; 4 1/2 c. sifted cake flour; 3 tsp. soda, dissolved in applesauce; 1 1/2 c. walnuts

1 1/2 c. raisins
3 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
4 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
3 tsp. soda, dissolved in applesauce
1 1/2 c. walnuts

Combine shortening, sugar and eggs. Beat until fluffy. Sift together flour, salt and spices; add alternately with hot applesauce and soda. Finally, fold in nuts and raisins. Bake in well greased pan 1 hour at 350°.
