  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 c. applesauce
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 c. currants (optional)

Directions

    Cream sugar and Crisco until light and fluffy.

    Add applesauce with which soda has been mixed.

    Mix flour, salt and spices, sifted together, then add raisins to this to coat them. Beat hard until well blended into sugar and Crisco.

    Bake in a 350° oven until toothpick comes out clean.
