  • 1 cup sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup applesauce, canned
  • 2 1/4 cups cake flour, sifted
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon clove
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped
