- 1 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. dried apricots, chopped
- 1/2 c. pitted dates, chopped
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
Directions

1Pour boiling water over apricots and dates.

2Add shortening, sugar and salt; cool.

3Add egg, flour, baking powder and nuts; mix well.

4Turn into greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 1 1/4 hours (75 minutes).
