Aromatic Mulled Wine

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red or white wine (750ml)
  • 1 orange or 3 clementines
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 old vanilla pod (seeds used in another recipe)
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 handful of dried sour cherries
  • 3 star anis
  • 1 pinch grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 shot rum
  • 2 or 3 mixed berries tea bags (or other fruity teas)
  • 1 sweetener

Directions

    Pour wine in a medium sized pot over medium low heat
  2. 2
    Juice and zest orange or clementines and add to the pot as well as cinnamon, vanilla, cloves, dried cherries, nutmeg, ginger and star anis

    Bring mixture to a very gentle boil and simmer for about 15 minutes then take off heat.

    At this point you could add a few tablespoons water if flavors are too strong

    Add tea bags, sweetener and rum.

    Leave a few minutes to infuse then strain mixture discarding solids (but keep rehidrated cherries).

    Serve immediately
