- 1 Tbsp. butter or lard
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/2 c. plain flour
- 2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- pinch of salt
Directions

1Beat butter and sugar until creamy; add egg and beat again. Then, add milk alternately with flour (to which salt, cream of tartar and soda have been added).

2Turn out on a well-floured board.

3Knead and shape into 2 pones and place on well-greased baking pans.

4Brush tops with melted butter.

5Bake at 350° until top is browned.
