Ingredients

  • 3 c. water
  • 1 c. red wine
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped parsley
  • 1/3 c. chopped celery tops
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix
  • 1 envelope au jus mix
  • 2 lb. stew meat, floured and seasoned
  • 1 large can potatoes
  • 1 c. chopped celery
  • 6 to 8 boiling onions
  • 6 carrots, thickly sliced
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 clove minced garlic

Directions

    Brown meat on all sides in oil.

    Transfer to large casserole dish.

    Combine first 8 ingredients and heat to boiling.

    Pour over meat.

    Cover and bake at 325° for 2 to 3 hours or until meat is almost tender.

    Add more if necessary.

    Add remaining ingredients and bake about 45 minutes or until vegetables are done.

    Thicken stock, if desired.

    Serve with hot sourdough bread.
