  • 2 cups flour
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 14 cup shortening
  • 1 cup water

Directions

    Combine flour, salt, and baking powder.

    Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or knives.

    Add water.

    Knead about a dozen times on floured surface.

    Flatten in a circle to 1/2 thickness.

    Melt 2 tablespoons shortening in a frying pan.

    When shortening is hot, add dough and fry until browned.

    Slide bannock onto a clean towel or rag.

    Add another 2 tablespoons more shortening.

    Flip the bannock onto the pan and cook the other side.
