Basic Meringue Pie Shell Recipe

  • 3 egg whites, room temperature
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 c. sugar

Directions

    Combine egg whites, cream of tartar and salt.

    Beat till stiff glossy peaks form.

    Meringue should be shiny and moist and all sugar dissolved.

    Spread over bottom and sides.

    (You can make fancy edge with a cake decorator, if you like.)

    Bake in very slow oven at 275 degrees for 1 hour or possibly till light brown and crisp.
