Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. milk, scalded
- 1 slightly beaten egg
- 3 1/2 c. flour
Directions

1Soften yeast in warm water.

2Cool milk to lukewarm.

3Add softened yeast, egg and 2 cups of flour.

4Beat well.

5Gradually add remaining flour or enough to make dough soft.

6Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours.

7Punch down.

8Turn out on a lightly floured surface. Roll 1/4-inch thick.

9Cut rounds of dough with a 1 3/4-inch cutter. Shape in small balls.

10Brush each with butter.

11Cover and let double (25 to 30 minutes).

12Bake at 400° for about 10 to 15 minutes.
