- 1 lb. navy beans
- 12 c. water
- 1 red pepper pod
- 2 bay leaves
- ham bone
- 3 tsp. salt
- 2 c. finely sliced celery
- 1 c. finely sliced carrots
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 c. slivered cooked ham
Directions

1Soak overnight navy beans.

2Drain and add water, red pepper pod, bay leaves and a ham bone.

3Bring to boil and reduce heat, cooking slowly for 2 1/2 hours.

4Discard ham bone, pepper pod and bay leaves and add remaining ingredients.

5Return to boil and reduce heat, cooking slowly for 1/2 hour.
