- 2 lb. beef (round)
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 c. carrots, cut in cubes
- 1/2 c. potatoes, cut in cubes
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
Directions

1Cut beef into inch cubes; roll in flour and fry in shortening, browning both sides.

2Put meat in saucepan; add boiling water to half cover meat.

3Add bay leaf and seasonings; cover and simmer slowly for 2 hours until meat is tender.

4Add vegetables; cook until done.

5More seasonings or other vegetables may be added.
