Beef Stew With Wine

- 1 large clove garlic
- about 12 onions
- 1 1/2 bunches carrots
- 3/4 lb. beef stew meat
- about 1 1/2 cans undiluted consomme
- 1 large bay leaf
- 2/3 c. dry red wine
- margarine
- flour, pepper and salt
Directions

1Brown garlic in margarine; take out and discard.

2Brown onions, remove and put in casserole.

3Brown carrots; put in casserole. Dust meat in flour, pepper and salt.

4Brown meat.

5Put everything back in skillet and add wine, consomme and bay leaf.

6Mix ingredients and return to casserole.

7Cover and simmer in a 350° oven about 4 hours.

8Stir occasionally to keep from getting too brown on top.

9Juice should be thickening perfectly but cautiously add more liquid if it appears to be drying out.
