  • 1 c. white syrup
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. black walnut kernels
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. soda

Directions

    Combine syrup, sugar and water in large skillet or saucepan. Bring slowly to 230° (or soft ball stage without candy thermometer).

    Add walnuts and continue cooking to 300°. Stirring constantly, remove from heat; add butter, vanilla, soda and salt.

    Stir until well blended.

    Pour into well-buttered cookie sheet.

    When cooled completely, break into pieces.

    Makes 1 1/2 pounds.
