- 1 c. butter, softened
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 5 eggs
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. milk
- 1 c. finely chopped black walnuts
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.

2Add eggs, one at a time, beating mixture well after each addition.

3Combine flour, baking powder and salt.

4Add to combined cream mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.

5Stir in vanilla and walnuts.

6Pour batter into a well-greased and floured 10-inch baking tube pan.

7Bake at 325° for 35 or 40 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

8Cool in pan 15 minutes before removing from pan and cool.
