- 1 cup whole what flour
- 1 cup rye flour
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 12 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 12 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 34 cup molasses
- 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening, melted
- 1 cup seedless raisin
Directions

1Mix flours, conrmeal, baking powder, saltand soda in a large bowl

2stir in buttermilk, molasses, shortening and raisins until very well mixed.

3Spoon batter into 4 well greased1 pound vegetable or fruit cans.

4Cover with foil and tie with a string.

5Place cans on rack in a dutch oven or large saucepan.

6pour boiling water until halfways up sides of cans.

7cover and simmer for 3 hours.

8pour in more water if nessacary.

9remove from dutch oven and remove foil.
-
10cool in cans for 10 minutes then invert cans.
