Braided Easter Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 10 eggs
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. butter or oil
  • rind of lemon (optional)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 10 c. flour
  • raisins, candied fruit (optional)

Directions

    Beat eggs until light.

    Add sugar and salt.

    Continue beating. Add dissolved yeast and milk, lemon rind, fruit, vanilla, butter and some flour. Knead on floured board, working in enough flour so dough is not sticky.

    Put in greased bowl.

    Cover with wet towel. Let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk.

    Punch down.
