Braised Red Cabbage

- 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 2 lb. red cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 4 apples, cored and sliced
- 2 whole cloves stuck in 2 onion quarters
- 1/2 c. red wine vinegar
- 1 bottle dry red wine
Directions

1Place large skillet over medium heat; add butter and melt.

2Add sliced onions and cook until softened and translucent (do not allow onions to brown).

3Add the red cabbage slices, salt, sugar and sliced apples, stir to combine.

4Add the two onion quarters stuck with cloves.

5Pour in the red wine vinegar and red wine.

6Cover and let braise over low heat until cabbage is soft and nearly all the liquid has been absorbed, about 1 1/2 hours.

7Taste for seasoning.
