  • 12 medium-size cucumbers
  • 1 1/2 lb. onions
  • 1/2 c. salt
  • 3 c. vinegar
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • 1/2 c. mustard seed
  • 2 tsp. celery seed
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

    Wash cucumbers and slice thin.

    Combine in a glass bowl with onions, sliced thin.

    Add salt and let stand 2 hours.

    Pour in colander and let drain.

    In an 8 to 10-quart pan, combine vinegar and rest of the ingredients.

    Bring to boil; add cucumbers and onions.

    Simmer for 2 minutes.

    Pack hot in hot jars.

    Seal. Makes 4 to 5 pints.
