Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 12 slices bread, toasted with butter
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 1/2 c. milk (1 can Pet, add milk to make 3 1/2 c.)
  • 5 eggs
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Toast bread.

    Place in casserole dish 9 x 13-inch (6 slices will fit on one layer.)

    Add another layer of toast.

    Mix remaining ingredients and pour over bread.

    Dish should stand for a few minutes to soak.

    Set a saucer on top to hold down bread. Put remaining pats of butter on top.

    Soak for 3 to 4 hours or refrigerate overnight.

    Bake at 350° for about 20 to 25 minutes or until bread puffs up and is golden brown.
