Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 2 c. dry bread cubes (more than 2 c.; will have to experiment)
  • 4 c. milk, scalded
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 4 slightly beaten eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • nutmeg (to sprinkle on top)

Directions

    Soak bread in milk five minutes; add butter, salt and sugar. Pour slowly over eggs; add vanilla and mix well.

    Pour into greased baking dish.

    Bake in pan of hot water in moderate oven at 350° until firm, about 50 minutes.

    One-half cup of raisins may be used if desired.

    It may be served warm with Lemon Sauce if desired. Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
