  • 1 qt. milk or 2 c. evaporated milk and 2 c. water
  • 2 c. stale bread crumbs or cubes
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 to 4 Tbsp. melted butter

    Grease 1 1/2-quart casserole.

    Heat milk.

    Stir in bread crumbs.

    Beat eggs in separate dish; stir in sugar and salt slowly.

    Stir in milk mixture, then nutmeg, vanilla and butter. Bake 75 minutes in 350° oven.
