Brining Turkey

Ingredients

  • 2-1/2 gal. water
  • 1 cup table salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 (10 lb.) turkey (thawed, if frozen)

Directions

    Place water, salt, sugar and pepper in deep container, preferably plastic, large enough to hold the turkey and the brining liquid.

    (Be sure container will fit in refrigerator).

    Stir until salt and sugar are completely dissolved.

    Add turkey to container, submerging turkey completely.

    (Make more brining liquid, if necessary).

    Cover container with plastic wrap; refrigerate at least 10 hours or up to 24 hours.

    Remove turkey from brining liquid; rinse well with cold water.

    Pat dry with paper towels.

    Bake as directed on turkey package.
