- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. rolled oats
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2/3 c. brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. lukewarm water
- 5 to 5 1/2 c. flour
Directions

1Pour boiling water over oats; cool to lukewarm.

2Add shortening and yeast, softened in the lukewarm water.

3Add brown sugar and salt and beat in enough flour to knead.

4Knead about 10 minutes.

5Let rise until double; punch down and make rolls or bread and let rise again.

6Bake at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes for rolls; 350° for 50 to 60 minutes for bread.
