Ingredients

  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 c. corn syrup
  • 1/2 c. water
  • pinch salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. nuts, if desired

Directions

    Put first 5 ingredients in heavy pan.

    Stir until sugars dissolve.

    Cook without stirring to 265° on candy thermometer, or to hard ball stage.

    Beat egg whites until stiff.

    Slowly beat in the syrup.

    When mixture begins to thicken, add vanilla.

    Continue beating until it holds its shape.

    Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper.

    Store in airtight container.
