Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. flour
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 c. chopped nutmeats or raisins (optional)
  • 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    In top of deep double boiler, put butter and chocolate; melt and blend together.

    Turn off heat and add sugar (use only 1 1/2 cups if you want a little more chocolaty brownie).

    When slightly cooled, add eggs and beat well.

    Add scant cup of unsifted flour and beat well.

    Add a bit of cinnamon, real vanilla and salt; mix well.

    Add chopped nuts or some raisins, if desired.

    Turn into greased 9 x 12-inch pan.

    For soft-type brownies, bake at 325° for 40 minutes.

    For chewy ones, bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
