Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk

    Preheat oven to 475°.

    Cut shortening into flour, salt, baking powder and soda with pastry cutter or use your fingers until mixture looks like coarse meal.

    Stir in buttermilk.

    Turn out on floured board, kneading gently.

    Roll out and cut large biscuits. Bake on a cookie sheet with biscuits touching each other for about 12 minutes.

    Save you biscuit trimmings and roll rectangle. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

    Roll lengthwise and cut into 1/2-inch pieces for bite size kid pleasers.
