- 2 c. sifted flour
- 5 generous Tbsp. shortening
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together in a bowl.

2Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture looks like coarse meal.

3Add milk and stir until a dough forms. Turn out onto a lightly floured board or pastry cloth and knead about 20 kneading turns.

4Pat dough out with hands to a thickness of 1/2 to 3/4-inch and cut with a 2 1/2 to 3-inch cutter.

5Place on an ungreased baking sheet with sides touching and bake in a 450° oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
