- 3 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 34 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 34 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1 cup buttermilk
Directions

1In a medium mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar.

2Using pastry blender or fingers, cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Make a well in the center of dry mixture.

4Add buttermilk all at once to dry mixture.

5(May have to add an extra 1 to 3 tablespoons of buttermilk if it seems dry).

6Using a fork, stir just until moistened.

7Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface.

8Knead dough 6 times by folding and gently pressing.

9Lightly pat dough to 3/4 inch thickness.

10Cut dough with a floured 3 inch biscuit cutter.

11Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.

12Bake 450 degree F. oven for 9 to 12 minutes or until tops are lightly golden.
